“You have Myeloma” Diagnoses: Fourteen Years Later.

Fourteen years ago, on February 3, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable blood cancer.

That moment marked the first of three times I heard the words: “You have cancer”, as I was subsequently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Breast Cancer.

As we celebrate Myeloma Action Month this month, I started to reflect on what this journey has taught me.

Cancer changes everything.
But it doesn’t get to decide everything.
And it has also given me profound gifts.

It has taught me to live with intention. To treasure family, friendship, and community. To keep choosing hope.

Fourteen years later, I am still here.
Still living.
Still loving.
Still believing that every day is a gift.

If you are walking a cancer journey yourself – or supporting someone who is – please know you are not alone.

With gratitude and hope,
Munira

When our son Shayne was about five years old, he developed a rather unusual interest. He loved going to funerals. Nagib and I were slightly puzzled. What five-year-old wants to go to funerals? But, being his parents, we naturally came up with the most flattering explanation possible. Perhaps he was deeply spiritual.Perhaps he was an old […]
