Once upon a time, there was a little girl who had a very important job.

She was a daughter.
She was a granddaughter.
She was a giggler, a question-asker, a story-lover and an excellent giver of hugs.
And then, one day, something wonderful happened.
A tiny new baby came home.
And just like that…
Little Miss became a BIG SISTER!
Everyone was very excited about the baby.
“Oh, look at those tiny toes!”
“Oh, look at those little fingers!”
“Oh, listen to that little sneeze!”
Little Miss looked at the baby.
The baby was very tiny.
And quite cute.
But also…
quite LOUD.
“WAAAAAAAH!”
Little Miss covered her ears.
“Does the baby do anything besides cry?”
Sometimes the baby cried.
Sometimes the baby slept.
Sometimes the baby drank milk.
And sometimes everyone seemed VERY busy with the baby.
Little Miss began to wonder:
“Is there still enough love for me?”
Mummy pulled her close.
Daddy kissed the top of her head.
And Nima wrapped both arms around her.
“Oh, my darling,” Nima said, “love is a funny thing.”
Little Miss looked puzzled.
“When a new baby comes, we don’t have to divide our love into smaller pieces.”
“We don’t?”
“No!” said Nima. “Our hearts simply make more.”
Little Miss thought about this.
A heart that could grow?
Now THAT was interesting.
So Little Miss decided to try being a big sister.
She brought the baby a blanket.
She sang the baby a song.
She showed the baby her favourite teddy bear.
And when the baby cried, Little Miss whispered,
“Don’t worry. I’m here.”
The baby stopped crying for exactly three seconds.
Little Miss beamed.
“I think she likes me!”
And as the days went by, Little Miss discovered something else.
Being a big sister didn’t mean she had to be big all the time.
She could still climb onto Mummy’s lap.
She could still ask Daddy for one more story.
She could still need cuddles.
She could still be little.
Because being a big sister wasn’t about being grown up.
It was about having someone new to love.
One day, the baby wrapped her tiny fingers around Little Miss’s finger.
Little Miss looked down at her.
And suddenly her heart felt very, very full.
“I think my heart grew,” she whispered.
Nima smiled.
“I told you it would.”
Little Miss leaned close to her baby sister.
“I’ll teach you lots of things,” she said.
“I’ll show you how to play.”
“I’ll make you laugh.”
“I’ll hold your hand.”
“And I’ll always be your big sister.”
Then she thought for a moment.
“But you are NOT getting my teddy.”
And everyone laughed.
Because Little Miss had discovered something wonderful:
A new baby hadn’t made her place in the family smaller.
It had made her world bigger.
And from that day on, she wasn’t just Little Miss.
She was…
LITTLE MISS BIG SISTER
Same loving family.
One more little person.
And a whole lot more love. ❤️
