Thursday, July 23rd at 8 p.m.

So what do you do when you have a published book and all the planned in-person events to launch the book get cancelled because of COVID?  It’s like being Cinderella with a wonderful fairy Godmother, a stunning gown and no party to go to.

You could wait until the pandemic is over and hold live events when permitted.

Or you could find new and creative ways to launch the book virtually when the world is largely physically distancing.

In a strange way, this is exactly the lesson that cancer has taught me. That you may have plans to live your life a certain way, but when the universe has other plans for you, you need to accept and adapt. COVID has nudged us to use technology to bring people together to talk about the book. It started with a Facebook Live event in May where my husband, Nagib, and my kids, Shayne and Sabrina from Nairobi, read excerpts from the book.  That event was more fun than going out and dancing in the rain!  And it inspired us to explore more ways to get word of the book out.

On Thursday, July 23 at 8 pm, we will be holding another virtual launch event for the book!  This launch event is hosted by Mawenzi House, Another Story Bookshop and the Toronto International Festival of Authors’ Toronto Lit Up program, funded by the Toronto Arts Council to spotlight new works by Toronto’s writers. Originally, this was going to be held live at the Princess Margaret Hospital. And then the pandemic hit and life took a pause.

It would be my honour and happiness if you would attend this virtual book launch event. As part of this event, Huse Madhavji, a Canadian actor and television personality and someone I am so proud to call my friend, will interview me. I will read excerpts from my book and answer questions you may have.  To register for this free event on Thursday, July 23rd at 8 pm, simply click on the Eventbrite Register button below. I look forward to connecting with you all virtually via Zoom…….
