We had our big appointment with Dr. Tiedemann yesterday and it’s ALL GOOD NEWS!
Based on a bone marrow biopsy taken after four chemos, the Lymphoma is in remission. However, Dr. Tiedemann took one last bone marrow biopsy yesterday (my fourth bone marrow biopsy — ouch, this one hurt!) just to confirm once and for all that the cancer is completely in remission. We will get results of this biopsy in two weeks.
The chemo treatment for the Lymphoma has significantly reduced the Multiple Myleoma cancer (by 50% for one type of protein, and 90% for the other type of protein). This was an unexpected and welcome blessing!
I now get a break of two weeks before we start the treatment for Myleoma. Dr. Tiedemann gave me the okay, over the next two weeks, to:
(a) go to Jamatkhana!
(b) watch movies in theatres – just in time for Batman, The Dark Knight Rises!
and, wait for it…
(c) get on an airplane and fly away on vacation! Off on that long-awaited vacation to Florida next week!
On August 1st, 2012, I start the chemotherapy treatment for the myeloma, which consists of 2 to 4 cycles of chemo. This is a different chemo than the one for the lymphoma and from what I understand, a little less invasive. Each cycle consists of 4 treatments, once per week, so I will be going to Princess Margaret Hospital every week during the months of August and September. If required, I may need to go for the remaining two cycles in October and November.
Assuming the Multiple Myeloma goes into remission (after two or four cycles), I will then be a candidate for stem-cell transplantation, which will hopefully keep the myeloma away for a long, long time. We will cross that bridge when we get to it.
We are about half-way through this journey, and we could not have done this without your prayers, love and support. With God’s grace and your continued prayers, we will embark on the second phase of this journey to conquer the Myeloma. Thank you for being with us every step of the way. We are humbled and sit in gratitude for this blessing.
Love,
The Premji Family.
